Stelle-Midwest Solar Capital
The Solar Capital of the Midwest* by Mark W. Wilkenson ©2000,
Home Power #77, [Reprinted with permission of author]
"Stelle, Illinois may well have become the solar capital of North America, if not the world. Over a third of the homes in Stelle have some or all of their electricity provided by photovoltaics (PV). The town water, phone, and internet service is powered by renewable energy (RE). "

Illinois Businesses and Organizations

Illinois Renewable Energy Association; www.illinoisrenew.org; I'LLinois RENEWable Energy Associtaion (IREA) is a group of people who are interested in energy efficiency, renewable energy and earth friendly technology.
We first came together on Summer Solstice, 1999, to develop plans for an energy fair similar to the Midwest Energy Fair that focused on the special needs of Illinois residents. We examined both urban/suburban and rural needs for renewable energy and chose to approach the majority of people where they live now, both physically and psychologically: in the city and suburbs.

Since that time the group has developed plans for further public information programs for both urban/suburban and rural residents.

Programs provide public education for both those who are learning about renewable energy for the first time and those who have made a major commitment to redesigning their lifestyles; allow communication between grass roots alternative energy supporters; and provide display opportunities for vendors, furthering their educational efforts

Illinois Solar Energy Association; http://iseanetwork.org;The Illinois Solar Energy Association (ISEA) was founded in 1975 and chartered by the State of Illinois in 1979. Our goal is to provide energy education and promote the application of solar and renewable energy technologies. ISEA is the Illinois chapter of the American Solar Energy Society. We are a non-profit volunteer organization with no paid staff.
